commentsMy family used to live on the corner of 143rd and Newport Ave. I have been gone for a long time but I still have fond memories of the area, especially the beach. I can remember falling asleep at night to the sound of the ocean. I still miss it.
commentsNeponsit is the best community in NYC to live in.

commentsNeponsit - what wonderful memories I have from that little piece of heaven. I spent my summers in the 40's and 50's there. My grandparents had a summer house at 328 B. 148th Street. It was left to my mother and when Brooklyn turned so bad in the 60's they converted it into an all year round house. She then sold it in 1981 after my father died. In fact I got married at West End Temple in October 1971 by Rabbi Weiss. What wonderful years they were. I actually went down to the beach and cried for hours the day she sold the house. I grew up thinking that some day that house would be mine and still, today, I wish that was true. I took a ride through the neighborhood about 4 years ago. Our house was still the way it had been sold but I was really surprised at what luxury lines those blocks now. All I say is "if only". I have been thinking so much about Neponsit lately that I was so happy to find you site. I'm sure that it is still the wonderful place that I have so many memories about.
commentsI came upon your lovely community in the course of my work with the New York Department of Education. I am looking for a community to settle in that is close enough to Manhatten for my daughters and their families to visit. Can you recommend a local realtor? Thank you, Cheryl Baker
commentsMy family and I will be moving to Neponsit within the next few years. I look foward to learning more and ultimately joining your organization!
commentsA truly beautiful beach area that provides a tranquility much needed in the hustle-bustle of the city environment. Our home away from home!!
commentsI GREW UP IN NEPONSIT, AND MISS IT TERRIBLY! I HAVENT BEEN BACK IN 20 YEARS! MY FATHER WAS THE CARETAKER FOR THE WEST END TEMPLE. IF ANYONE CAN EMAIL ME SOME PICS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
commentsYour community sounds very inviting for families.
commentsI recently bought a home on neponsit lane. all the other streets in the neighborhood are names of towns in queens and nassau. Since I grew up on Long Island I was able to make a connection. I did not know about the town of Neponsit. I would love to find out about the builder of my deveploment back in 1958. He had to come from Queens.
commentsHave lived in Florida for 14 years and love it. Do miss the Rockaways though. Old address was 464 Bch.145 St.

commentsWe returned to Neponsit last summer and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. My great grandparents, George and Sallie Smyth, lived at 140 Beach 143rd Street. They built that house around 1919. Their three daughters stayed there until 1952. If anyone has a picture of the house, I'd like to have a copy of it. Many thanks.

commentsI lived at 317 B. 146th St. for 6 years (1957-1963). The neighborhood back then was a great place for kids to grow up. Aside from going to the beach, our childhood recreational activities consisted of stick ball, punch ball, basketball, baseball, two hand touch football, with a very occassional game of tackle football, etc. Safe streets, good schools, and plenty of friends. A top flight neighborhood.
commentsBest friend lives in Neponsit. Beautiful oasis from Manhattan. Also home to one of the most widely read cases in first year Law School casebooks: Neponsit Property Owners Assoc v. Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank (1938). Pay those dues everyone!!!
commentsMy daughter and her hubby just bought a house in Neponsit. She has told me about her neighbors and how nice they all have been and how happy they are to be there. My daughter has always loved the beach since she is a little girl and now she is living her dream! I am so happy that they have found such a beautiful and safe enviorment to start their family.
commentsMy maternal grandfather, Michael S Perri, from Scarsdale owned a summer home in Neponsit in the 30's and early 40's. My paternal grandparents, Frank and Elsie Alleva lived in Belle Harbor with my Dad, Frank and his brther Alex. Many fond memories of the beaches. If anyone knew my Dad(he is still living) please advise.
commentsGreat site! Brings back fond memories of my childhood. I lived in Neponsit (142nd Street) from 1957 - 1974. My mother still lives there (Since 1940). It's a great neighborhood, but those parking restrictions should be modified for local residents. Perhaps a resident's permit allowing on street parking in the summer, with in dash guest passes would benefit those with limited driveway parking. Although those empty streets in the summer were great for touch football and stickball.
commentsI am in law school. We just studied your homeowner's association in our Property Class. Our professor stressed your organization was the first of its kind and an innovator for such associations. Your neighborhood is beautiful. Keep up the good work.
Dear Association members: My late grandfather Herman Brasch was an original property owner in Neponsit. I am researching family history and would like to know if you can tell me what month and year he built his home on the beach block of 149th Street,, perhaps at 185 Beach 149th Street. We believe he may have built the house between 1903 and 1915. Any additional historic data related to his early years as a “pioneer” in Rockaway would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely,
Phyllis Brasch Librach
commentsOnce lived at 154 B 148...
commentsWHAT A SURPRISE. LIVING DOWN IN FL. NOW.USED TO BE ON 144th AND THE BLVD. WE LEFT NEPONSIT APROX '1985. GREAT TO SEE THE AREA, AGAIN. I'L NEVER FORGET THE PEACE OF MIND LIVING AWAY FROM THE CITY, YET SO CLOSE. GREAT SITE
commentsHEllo NPOA, While at the beach on Fire Island today 8/6/05 a memory came to me of my grandfather who was a lifeguard in Neponsit back in the 1920's. Among my treasures is a letter from the NPOA thanking him for his service to them along with a photo in his lifeguard swimsuit which say NEPONSIT. I am going to search for it and would love to share it with you. Hoping to hear from you. Yours truly, Maureen DiFilippe
